Default Hi - Potential new owner

Found this forum while trying to figure out if I should buy this 2002 A4...I can't evaluate it completely since the immobilizer system is working and the seller doesn't know how to bypass. All paperwork checks out and other than this problem, it seems like a pretty decent deal - high mileage, but the body (and I'm told mechanically) it's pretty good.

Thoughts?

Hello, I would have an Audi/VW tech check it out before purchasing it. Unless your getting it for $500 then you cant loose. The most important parts on cars are the engine tranny and other expensive components. To heck with paperwork and a shiny exterior. People can make any document on a computer these days. A techs opinion is of a lot more value. I would take a beater that ran and shifted great over a shiny high miles cars that needed lots of $$$$$ to get it running right!

I wouldn't buy it unless I heard it run and drove it. People will tell you anything they think you will believe to make the sale. Who knows, he may have intentionally done something to make the immobilizer disable the car so you couldn't drive it before you buy it.

The immobilizer isn't something you can just "bypass". Something sure sounds fishy. Did he explain what lead up to the immobilizer disabling the car?
