Default Vw beetle 1998

Hi guys got called to a vw beetle 1998 with lost keys, its a left hand drive car so imported, the customers original key read as having an id48 chip in it before they lost it.

I decoded a lock and made the key but have been unable to read the pincode on this particular vehicle, not sure on the 3 letter engine type code as the documents say "not known"

weird thing is the vehicle starts even though ive not programmed the new key but the engine management check light remains on. I believe the vehicle may of been from mexico ?!

Before i condsider tryin to remove the clocks and eprom reading the chip i thought i would ask here.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

cheers jazzy

None from me, it can't have an immo issue though or it wouldn't stay running, maybe it's been deleted already.

going to try it again tomorrow and see if it still starts, will try and read pin again with ad100pro, if not might try the eprom read! Its a weird one, might be that immo has never been operational, will also check to see if anyone has taped or stuck a chip to ariel coil

thanks for takin a look rocky

Maybe the older vags from other countries didn't have the immo, if the immo was acting up thopugh I'd expect the car to start and conk out after a couple of seconds.

I have a 2007 new beetle, lost a set of keys had original and valet ordered key that matched the trans and upper #s the dealership gave me over the phone. got the key, got it cut. read versions of being able to get the key programmed without dealing with dealershilp costs. Anyone know if a 2007 can be programmed without having the dealership do it? my trans number is 1J0959753DC and the upper key part is it0837246DINF. thanks for any and all help/wisdom. (the car is leased and we are dropping it off at dealership onOct 1st) not sure if they care if the key is programmed or not. I guess that could be a part 2 question. :O
