Default Matching used key to immobilizer

Hello there, have a friend/customer who lost his VW Golf 4 Variant's only key in a scuffle with some assailants last night. He imported this car second hand about 6 months ago so doesn't have as I quote, "the 4 digit plastic tag with the SKC printed on it under a scratch off panel". I've managed to get a used key and matching ignition barrel from a breaker for him at half the price the dealer one weeks order and almost 10,000 miles away in Dubai would charge. I have a licensed copy of Vagcom but from my googling, can't proceed without this number. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?, thanks, in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

No you won't crack the immobilizer without going to a dealer or buying VAG TACHO

Angry Ouch

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping not as 1. Dealer in my country is "none-existant" which is why people like me are setting ourselves up as the "un-official" dealers and 2. Bought a VAGCOM after scantool.net's wifi "toy" failed to do anything advertised. Was hoping I could download the software and then use it just for the PIN read through my Vagcom. I guess you live, you learn.

You can easily download the VAG TACHO 2.5 software not the 3.01 thats for GM it but you need the special lead to go with it. The VAG-COM lead won't work with it, so I'm told.

A cable will come with the software, vag tacho 2.5 cable.

Or you could get the instrument panel from the car the key came from.

Default Found one would you recommend it?

Hello again guys,
thanks for all the information,

The "breaker" doesn't have access to the old dash/cluster as he sold it off,

I have tried various sites without much success (mostly due to the fact that I can't do credit card purchases and they don't accept TT's or Western Union). Add to that the Chinese new year, my options have come down to about 3 but I'm thinking of getting it from this one site.

Can anyone tell me if I'm wasting time and money with this particular item? I plan to pay for the item in the next 24hours, the link is

cheers.
