Default Tamper seal wax on screws to fuel filter can top

Who applies these if anyone other than factory ? Noticed following 20,000 mile warranty dealer job which required fuel filter replacement and that wax seal appears intact on lid screw but removed on vent water siphon screw.

Didn't you hear? VW hired David Copperfield to train the technicians how to change the filter without opening the canister...

Welcome to the website (and to the Wonderful World of VW dealerships...)

Yeh. That's what bothers me. Will have 40,000 mile service next week. This time I will insist on being in work area to view work and also to inspect used filter for any contaminants such as metal etc. If they voided warranty requirements just what recourse could I have ?

Default fuel filter

I just did my own 40K check and noticed the same seal on the filter canister. Wes Greenway VW in Waldorf MD, did my free service checks. I wonder what else I got for free?

Getting scarerie ! At 40,000 miles will require DSG transmission oil and filter change which my dealer shop in Houston quotes outlandish price of $369 just for that one procedure in addition to tests and work required which can run into 100s more. I'm beginning to miss the good old USA Chevys.

I have a 2006 jetta TDI also with the DSG and I do the fluid/filter change myself and it is time consuming and the fluid and filter are expensive. I also have the computer program that checks the temperature of the fluid so I get the correct level of fluid in the transmission. The service here in the DC area is around $500+

If you're at all mechanically inclined, I'd strongly encourage you to invest in tools and do most of the basic maintenance yourself... (we have all the procedures needed here on the website)

Closest recommendable independents would be a couple of hours away in San Antonio or Austin... PM me if you need contact info...

Thanks. I had already done the engine oil and filter (no problem) and do have the fuel filter on hand. My hesitance in doing the fuel system is due to some comments I've seen online elsewhere about bleeding the air from the system and how precise or not precise that step is. Would appreciate info on independent VW service shops in my area which includes Houston, San Antonio or Corpus. Will this website's related instructions.

Default Indepedent mechanics

There is a guy named Alli that I take my jetta to in the League City area just south of Houston. His business is called Autowerks, 832-692-4496. He worked at the vw stealership for a number of yrs before opening his place. Unfortunately, he is not open on the weekend for some reason. He did my tb, egr cleanout and unplugged my fuel line a couple of weeks ago. Car runs great now. He is half of what the stealership costs are. Seems to be pretty trustworthy, ymmv. I had been looking for someone I could trust for awhile because you can't trust the dealership for crap. Anyways, hope this helps someone looking for a place in the Houston area.
