Default Paddle shifter and MFSW steering wheel swap

http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a5/paddle-shifter-steering-wheel-swap.htm

It explains the basics, part numbers w/links to vendors and their prices, and links to pictorials.

IMO, they should have had the MFSW on all cars (not on the station wagon), and paddle shifters on all DSG cars. It probably costs $10 extra to make.

EDIT: updated for the mk6 vws: there are a few wheels that will work on the new Golf and JSW. The mk6 Jetta is a different story:

Is this for tiptronic or DSG?

At least in this car, tiptronic = DSG. All 2005.5 and up Jetta TDIs which are auto are DSG.

Tiptronic is just an auto which lets you shift it. DSG is sometimes called tiptronic but it should be called just DSG to avoid confusion. This is because some tiptronics are conventional auto aka, slushboxes. I think the tiguan will be equipped with a slushbox due to towing capacity.

I think you also need a highline cluster. The steering wheel isn't any good on a lower cluster model. Not sure which trim it came with but the newer ones all have a highline cluster.

I'm not totally clear on it, you need a vag-com to reset the wheel, can't it be plug-play?

I believe that you need a vag-com. The reason why is because the steering wheel is drive by wire. When you remove and replace the steering wheel, you have to reset the movement. If you don't have a MFSW but do have the capability, you may need other vagcom magic. If you don't have MFSW and don't have the highline display, you need a lot of magic since the new instrument cluster is linked to the immobilizer and only the dealer can sync a new one....there are aftermarket solutions as well to get the SKC.

Default MFSW swap/button add control module compatibility

I have a 09 TDI 6sp Manual sportwagen that does not have the MFSW, or Nav. I would like to add either the buttons or swap wheels to have radio/phone control on the steering wheel. I confirmed that the control module installed is part number VW 1KO 953 549 CA. Does anyone know if this module will support the buttons or plug and play MFSW swap? THANKS!
