Just purchase month a go my first Diesel Car, Jetta 2006 TDI Pkg 1 (leather and factory Navigation), have 179,00o Miles and is in excellent conditions, i have records form las owner, on replace this year fuel filter, fly wheel, battery. also i just replace the timing belt and water pump, now i'm ready to replace the oil from the engine, i'm ready have the oil from the my local dealer, and the STP oil filter from autozone, but i'm confused about if i have to replace the oil plug? i see some videos from you tube and the said to replace it on every oil chance (i think this is only required on 09 models and up) Do i have to replace the oil plug on my 2006 Jetta TDI on every oil change too ? Thank you guys for all the tips on this forum, is a lot of help for me. Jorge

Welcome to the forum Jorge.
![]() Now it shouldn't be necessary to change the sump plug on any oil change of any engine. You should check the condition of the plugs sealing washer, copper, aluminium, dowty type that should be the only thing you need to change. It depends if a butcher has changed the oil previously and stretches\weakened the threads on the plug and sump? As you say the later TDI's have a problem with their sump plugs leaking and the recommend changing them. Is that a typo, GTI front Grille or Grille from GTI?

No, you really don't have to replace the plug. I don't even replace the washer and have never had any leaks. Check out the article here on how to change the VW Jetta TDI engine oil.

My dealer in Everett, Wa., Pignataro WV does stock just the washer. You have to cut the old washer with dikes to get it off the plug. Not really a bad idea to change the washer.................
