Losing MPG on 2009 Jetta Sportwagen

Purchased it used w/ 23K mileage after dealer performed 20K service. Started out at 42mpg and has now dropped to 39mpg with sluggish starts. Am at 51K mileage. Drive 100 miles a day (to/from work) and average 50-60 mph.

Getting ready to take a 2K trip to Illinois and back and am considering adding an aFe Cold Air Intakes 51-81711 Stage 2 CX Air Intake System to boost power and mpg but am looking for some guidance/advice on whether it will be worth the $285 to do so. Have learned so much from you in the past several days and believe I'm a TDI'er for life! Thanks for the education so far.

Have you done the 40k service? Your car has an excellent cold air intake. Save your $, you will see no difference.

Have you replaced the tires? Air filter?
