Here is a tip that might help in the future when you have to remove your engine cover. Once you remove the cover place a generous amount of white litium grease on the 4 sockets that are attached to the engine cover. Place the engine cover back in the proper position and push down on each corner. Simple as that.This will greatly help the next time you want to remove the engine cover. As the grease will let the cover sockets slip off the mounting balls much easier.

Here are a few pics and instructions: Grasp the engine cover in one corner at a time with both hands and pull up sharply. Do this at each of the four corners.This will pop the socket off the ball.






Once all four corners are loose you can lift the engine cover off. Note the sockets at each corner.Turn cover over and set it where you want.



Place a generous amount of grease on each socket and then replace the engine cover.

Chitty,thanks! Although I do need to edit the first pic. It actually shows pulling on two corners at once. I should have a pic showing pulling on one corner with two hands. I'll try and edit that pic soon.

Why is white lithium grease prescribed? Wouldn't any ol' generic grease do the trick?

I wonder why white lithium grease? I haven't had my cover off yet so I'm not sure what it mounts on. If it rubber the white lithium grease isn't really suitable because the spec says White Lithium Grease. It prevents corrosion on most surfaces. Petroleum-based greases affects rubber it makes it swell, deteriorate and go tacky it. If the mounts are rubber then I would use rubber grease as used on braking system rubbers or use silicone grease.

Ok I decided to remove the cover today after I came back after having a service. It appears there are 4 mounting pins that sit inside 4 plastic/nylon sockets so the white lithium grease would do to lubricate them. I didn't bother as they weren't hard to remove at the moment.
