I tried today to do my DSG service using the top fill method, and was hoping that exactly 4.6 liters would drain. But, 6 full liters actually came out. Fluid was 95 degrees F when draining, and car was about 6 inches higher in front than in rear. I am concerend about how many to put back in? I know previous owner did service himself and borrowed VAS 6262 and had Vag-Com. Which option best fits at this point? I am apart in the garage. 1) Change filter and top-fill with 4.6 liters + a little and not worry about it 2) Fill the full 6 liters and not worry about it. DSG has been performing flawlessly for the last 40,000 miles on this 170,000 miles car. 3) Jack the back up 6" to level the car. Top fill 6 liters and run for about a minute, shifting through the gears, and then pull the drain plug and leave snorkel tube in. 4) What other options are there? Thanks for the help, David in Spartanburg, SC 2006 Jetta, DSG, BRM |

Here is what I did to get back up and running. I hope this is good:
I added the full 6 liters of new fluid and put in new filter and levelled car. Fluid was 85F going in. I then started and twice ran through gears, stopping for 3-5 seconds each. I left car running and pulled the drain plug. Fluid started running out. At the point it looked to have begun to slow flowing, I went ahead and sealed it up. A little over 0.5 liters came out. So, I am likely still a bit high on the level. But, I am at least 0.5, and likely closer to a full liter lower than I have been for the last 40,000 miles. I will be buying VCDS soon so I can re-do the process and know exactly where I am. This guessing has made for a rough day. Thanks for the help. David |

IMHO, whenever there's a question about fluid level, do overfill-drain excess with VCDS (or have a temp sensor on fluid). Some people have said that a tiny bit overfilled is fine (fluid slow stream instead of no longer dripping). A little too much is better than too little.
