Just wondering if anyone knows how good and clean is diesel fuel in Mexico all the way down to Belize and thru out the country. I would like to drive all the way down there from Canada thru States. Am I looking for any trouble with their fuel? Or maybe it's better than ours? All input and suggestions are greatly appreciated. I drive 2009 Jetta TDI with DSG transmission. Thanks. |

You must only use ULSD. Mexico is still mostly LSD. A few drops shouldn't do anything but I'm pretty sure a few tankfuls will cause DPF clogging. ULSD is 97% less sulfur than LSD.

Just came back from Mexico from Yucatan and Chiapas states. Dealers over there sell all available models with 2.0 tdi engines (not 1.8 tdi). How they can do that since there is no ULSD? Thanks

Not 100% sure but Im pretty sure they don't have DPF filters. Different emissions standards, this is why you can trade US-Canada approved cars but there aren't any Mexico-US approved cars. That's why you don't see relatively new type 1 VW bugs running around in the US. They were building them in Mexico until 2003.

I agree with chitty, emissions standards in Mexico are kinda poor, i own a mk5 jetta (bora in Mexico) with dsg and 1.896 cc engine and i still dont' have any trouble.
