Default converting a jetta to package 2

So I am the new owner of a 2006 jetta with package 1. I am very interested in loading this car up with features. I have done alot of reading but still need a few answers to a couple of things. I know I need the vcds cable and computer to do most of this.

1. how hard is it to convert to a highline central control module?

2. Is it hard to convert the instrument cluster out to a highline model. I plan on taking it to a dealership to have them reprogram one if I can find one that works with my TDI.

3. Will any model Jetta steering wheel (with buttons) work with this, as long as i get the proper steering wheel control module?

4. I would like to get an oem Gps unit for the car as well. Will all this communicate together well?

I think all the other mods are straightforward such as the rain sense, hid, and foglights. Thanks for any help

RE: earlier organization question, see the mk5 FAQ section. FAQ pages start with 1000q.

1. Easy, see the HID conversion FAQ for pics.

2. Easy plug-play if you can get around the SKC

3. Any mk5 will work.

4. Which one? I've had the mfd2, I wasn't a fan because you had to input street name before town. RNS510 is awesome but $$$.

I gave serious consideration to doing just what you are planning to do. In the end, I found it was just easier to look harder and find a package 2 that I wanted. Just easier in the end...

Thanks for the help. I see that I am on the right track for what I would like to do. The dealer should be able to convert the cluster over and get around the SKC right. Assuming what I read is correct then they use a computer that basically ports it over without them seeing the code. I heard over in britain that they just put on a highline cluster from a gas jetta and then deal with the rev counter having the wrong redline and no glowplug light.

sorry for the questions that might have been asked before, reading so much I might have overlooked some of these things.

Oh and Chud, I thought about that but I am a mechanic by nature and love understanding how everything works together. So doing this just makes me learn more about my car and makes me wiser for repairs in the long run. Thanks

another question, will the highline cecm work from gas jettas? They seem pretty reasonable online. Any particular part numbers for them
