Default Brake miracle

My 06 Jetta has 170K, mostly hwy miles. The cam, egr, time belt, water pump, fuel filters recently done. The front brakes have never been done. The euro pads are stillfine, the rotor smooth. The rears were done at 60K, they are in good shape also.

I know, this must be the exception, I have never had a car so brake free.

Not really... I don't know how the newer cars wear their brakes (and of course, it all depends on the type of driving), but on our 2003, the factory original rear brakes lasted 142,428 miles and the front brakes went 195,792 miles... (95% highway...) Since then: the replacement rear brakes went 174,837 and the next set (with possibly defective calipers) 126,760 miles... The fronts got used pads after 81,901 miles (we were replacing the bearings and decided to throw a used set of pads) and then went a further 147,995 miles... These cars, at least the A4, aren't that hard on the brakes...

YMMV...

Yuri

Apparently with the abs system the rears do most of the work except when braking hard, that's why the tdi cars don't nose dive.

Not a miracle really. You must know how to properly operate the brakes by not riding them for blocks and not coasting up to stops in neutral. And like Seatman said, under light braking the rears do most of the braking. Is your car a manual or DSG?

My 06, MT is at 99K miles and the fronts are between 1/2 to 3/4 material left and I think the rears have maybe 20 K miles left.

I'm pushing 142K miles and none of the brakes have been done. Last time I had the wheels off the fronts and backs still had 40-50% of the pads left.

Oh yeah, I also drive 80-90% highway, 500 - 600 miles per week.

In fact no one is allowed to have guns. Two legged or four legged.

well, the DSG tranny in S mode really shifts fairly quickly (faster than in D mode) as soon as one takes the foot off the fuel, so many times, one can estimate the required stop and barely press the brake pedal.
