2005.5 vs. 2006 VW Jetta TDI Package 2 Comparison

Hi. Im new to this forum. Been doing lots of research and Im hoping some experts and owners alike can answer some questions and verify some package differences for us as well as any future buyers that might stumble upon this thread looking for the same answers as I.

My wife and I are looking to buy a 2005.5 or 2006 VW Jetta TDI with as many options as we can. This would be our first VW, our first diesel and the newest car we've ever owned. Ive done lots of research but as you can imagine sorting out differences in trim packages is difficult and especially so for the two in question.

I tried my best to make a comparison chart of both the 2005.5 TDI Jetta Package 2 and the 2006 TDI Jetta Package 2. Ive attached a picture of the chart.

Please verify the information in the chart. This might become a convenient sticky.

1. Were 2005.5 TDI Jettas available in white exterior with black interior? I havent seen any. Ive only seen this color combo in 2006.

2. What exactly does the Coming Home/Leaving Home option do? I know its something with the lights staying on but the info I found wasnt clear and specific and Im not sure it included everything.

3. Is the Coming Home/Leaving Home option available on 2005.5 or 2006 Pkg. 2 and if not on the 2006 can it be added?

4. Is auto headlights the same thing I hear referred to as the "sunlight sensor"? Or is it the "sunlight sensor" enables the auto headlights?

5. Can auto headlights be added to the 2006?

6. If you add the "rain sensing/auto dim mirror" mod to a 2006 can you then program the "auto window/sunroof close" function?

7. Is there footwell lighting on the 2006 and is it adjustable like the 2005.5?

8. Was the homelink on the 2005.5 on the visor or the mirror? If it was on the visor can it be added to the 2006 by just replacing the visor?

9. Is the auto adjusting side view mirror available on the 2006 or can it be added? The feature Im describing is the one where the side view mirror adjusts downward automatically so you can see the curb.

10. Can the power passenger seat from a 2005.5 be added to the 2006? Or any matching power passenger seat?

11. Is the fold flat front seat(s) standard in the 2006 TDI Pkg. 2? What about the 2005.5?

12. Are there any other differences that Ive missed?

13. Are there any other options that can be modded to fit either year?

dual zone climate was only 2005.5 standard, package 2 for 2006.

2. coming home = lights on when lock car, leaving home = lights on when unlock car

4-6 yes.

8. no, sunvisor and yes but you have to add the 2 wires

9 yes but not worth effort, need door modules+wiring+memory seats required

Yes, I read all the faqs on this website. They were extremely helpful and my starting point for the comparison, but they werent completely clear.

You skipped question 3.

What do you mean by "side mirrors no" for question 7.? I want to know if the 2006 has the adjustable footwell lighting. Or any footwell lighting at all.

What are "door modules" and dont the 2006 package 2 Jettas come with memory power driver seat?

So the 2006 and 2005.5 pkg. 2 Jettas both have the fold flat front seat(s)?

So we're clear, Im talking only about package 2 Jettas here. Not base or package 1s.

3. I'm pretty sure those are coding options but not 100% sure. I've never used them since I don't want my headlights on.

Door modules are boxes in door that control door operation. The 2005.5 had a highline model, 2006 had midline. To make the auto-lowering side mirror work you need a highline door module and memory seats.

Should have fold flat front seat. I actually do use it all the time as a table.

Don't know about footwell lighting but I know it's adjustable through VCDS.

Fold down front seat is not available on the 2005.5 with package 2 (power/memory seats).

chittychitty: you have a 2006 Jetta. Do you have a light in your footwell? You say Coming Home/Leaving Home might be a coding option. Is it a coding option for both 2005.5 and 2006 or one or the other?

Since a 2006 Jetta pkg. 2 already has memory power driver seat wouldnt it be really easy just to pop in a 2005.5 door control module and fish any extra wires it needs or is the memory power seat module also different in a 2006 than a 2005.5?

Non fold down seat probably holds true on 2006 with with power/memory seats.

Look at the picture of the seat at the bottom of this page, if the seat has the extra fold down
lever then the seat will fold forward.

So are you telling me fold down seat was not available on the 2005.5 and it was not standard on 2006 pkg.2 but rather an option? So I would have to look for the option on each individual 2006 pkg.2 Jetta I look at?

"Not available in 2005.5/2006 cars with power seats" as in plural? In which case might I mention only the 2005.5 came with driver AND passenger power seats. 2006 came only with driver power seat. So are you saying that it didnt come on cars with power passenger seat (2005.5 only) or didnt come on cars with any power seats (2005.5 & 2006).

Careful wording is very important in explaining these trim levels thanks to VW.
