Which method did you use and why didn't the local garage use 507?

I assume you mean, gravity out the drain plug, or extraction thru the dipstick. I did it the old fashioned way, up on the jack stands and drained out thru the drain plug. Really took my time just so as to not mess anything up. Biggest problem was getting the bottom cover back on. After a huge struggle, it somehow just snapped back into place.
As to why the garage didnt use a 507.0, I guess the answer was it wasnt on the shelf and I didnt insist (I should have). They used Mobil One, but not the EFP formula. Anyway, hopefully running it for 10K won't kill it. I just had some prep to do i.e. getting the torx set for the fuel filter housing, the jack/stands and the right filters (both of which were wrong on first try). Question: how much does that car weigh? I bought 2 1/4 ton jack and stands and I prpb. went a bit light. Manuel says it's on a sticker in the doorjam, but that doesn't list full vehicle weight. I assume its 2,500 - 3,000 lbs. Roger |

It appears that the 507.00 oil isn't readily available in the States, I've read a few forum complaints about this. For some strange reason the VW dealers don't like to stock it because they can't get good discounts on bulk buying. I've also read that US motoring shops sell this oil if you want to change your own oil. We don't have that problem in the UK.
