Question trouble with key programing

Granddaughter lost only key to her 2000 VW Beetle. Bought Vagtacho software Vehicle not responding. She replaced stock radio with radio from Best Buy last christmas. I've read that the vehicle not responding is most likely the K line connection on the radio connector. Is there a way around this? We do not have the stock radio. Any help would be appreciated

Is it not possible to disconnect the stereo while you do the other stuff then plug it back up after because unless it's some really fancy thing they're usually very straight forward to retune etc

Are you saying if I disconnect the radio the Beetle will communicate with the Vagtacho interface?

I'm just thinking that if the stereo is what's causing the issue then it might work because you said
"I've read that the vehicle not responding is most likely the K line connection on the radio connector"
and I figured it would be an easy thing to try but wether it would work or not I don't know.
