thumping noise and air blowing out from inlet?

Hi guys ive got a mk4 gti tdi 150bhp 2003.... iv gathered that the cam and tappets are not brilliant on these but mine is blowing air out of the inlet and that is the thumping like noise...

i could here the thumping noise from the air box then removed the rubber boost pipe to the intake also the EGR so now the engine is running without the turbo and that's where the noise is coming from but why is it blowing air out when it should have an induction to air?


any help and advice would be gratefully appreciated guys....

because the cam is worn and intake air is bouncing out.

Check out the FAQ for videos of worn cams, I'll bet yours sounds the same.
