I have the 2000 Jetta that will not read my key when the weather is hot or been driven for a while and sits for over 20 mins.
On occasion if I leave the key in for 10 mins it will read and start, sometimes it will not start until the next morning. Usually if the immo light flashes immed, with no 1-2 sec delay, then the 10min trick works almost every time.
I bought the car with only one valet key. I bought a second valet key and the same problem.
The computer seems to be giving out an error code that I have had fixed twice but does not fix the immo prob.
I have tried using the clock and odo to bypass the immo but it doesnt seem to respond at all.
The dealer wants me to replace the ecu for around $1000...way too much for this car
I could really use a simple bypass for the immo just to get this daily driver running w/o a hassle.
I have a mechanic in Berkeley that says ecu on fairly cheap to buy ($40 on ebay) and will replace, maybe even spec up the computer for better running
