Manual transmission switches and sensors

Intro post: 03 jetta tdi.
I noticed that I don't have reverse lights so I am suspecting that I need to change out the sensor on the manual transmission. While inspecting the location I noticed another switch / sensor on the transmission from the bottom right above the starter. It has two wires one pulled out.
What is it?
is there a harness clip somewhere up wire?
Where is the best place on line to find the revesse switch?

Pics of the broken wiring there are a lot of wires there? It could have rubbed through. Only thing I can think of is the starter wiring.

Well if you found some wires pulled out, are they for the reverse light sensor? The reverse light sensor is the one that is on the shifter linkage.
