filling mk4 auto trans

newbie here has done a lot of reading, and am puzzled as to why not just fill through the drain hole with the red spigot installed?

also, no mention of replacing the plastic skid shield; always talk of relatively thin sheet metal that will grab, tear, and crumble rather than slide. my plastic shield is somewhat deformed, and am figuring on reinforcing it from the back side with glass or carbon-kevlar....

please advise; IMHO these GOLF mobiles are just the BEST
