Default Can anyone tell me if something is missing here or not ? thanks

Hi Guys, I was going to remove the EGR cooler today and then fit an EGR delete kit, but once I took off the engine cover, I couldn't see an EGR cooler, so I though ah, it's already been removed, but there was still a exhaust to EGR pipe fitted ? I've never seen this before when looking at pics and reading up before I began on my task - does anyone have any idea on wether this is a custom made pipe or its normal and mine doesn't need to have a cooler fitted - Thanks

2003 - VW Golf - 130bhp - ASZ engine.

That pipe coming off the exhaust manifold is original. If you remove it without blocking it off, all the exhaust will come out that hole.

You may want to learn what is on the other side of that pipe.

I don't see a cooler. At least in the US, only the 1996 Passat TDI didn't have an EGR cooler.

Thanks for the reply ccbb, I understand how the ERG system works & whats on each side of the pipe, I was just wondering why there was no cooler present, the pipe does look oem, but I thought a cooler should have been present and this may have been a custom made pipe where by someone had removed the cooler.
