Question Beetle 1.9 TDI

Lost a lifter top. It lodged between the head casting and the cam lobe. Locked the cam, spun the cam gear. Well, you know the rest of the story. Pulled the head. The pistons and the valves looked good. Removed the cam and noticed the tops of all the lifters were cracked and had a small circular indention in them. Would like to fix the timing belt once. Any sure fire answers?

new valves.. do not trust them... once they "hit" there can be a crack you cannot see and well it will drop a valve down the road.. then buy head/piston/rods too.. now valves cost less...

and well new lifters...

check the cam real good.. may need one of them too..

last bu tnot least.. check the piston protrugen heights.. you can also bend a rod.. so if one sits lower then the others the rod has been tweeked..

Chekc out the mk4 FAQ index for head replacement article. Make sure new cam spins correctly because bearings are part of head, they should be OK.
