My automatic transmission in my 2005 GLS Passat is stuck in gear, less than 300 miles after installing a new engine at the dealership. The dealership wants more than the car is worth to install a new transmission, naturally if the engine and transmission failed together I would not now be considering a new transmission. My question is has anyone changed out a transmission on their own? if so can you offer advise? I am considering doing the work myself to save $1100 labor charge. Any advise would help. Thanks |

I'd blame the dealership because if they put in a new engine, there's all sorts of things that they could have messed up and the timing is too coincidental. Did they install the shifter cables correctly? It could be as simple as that.
See the b5 specific FAQ for how to remove the engine/transmission. Also, this is not a site suggestion, moving to mk4 section. |
