Until yesterday it's had a full throttle slight stumble noticable at hwy speeds, but otherwise drives good. I can get it to go into LIMP mode if I bring the RPM's over 3500 and full throttle. I just hadn't had a chance to chase that down as it's hardly an issue during regular driving. Yesterday just driving normally it went into limp mode and gave an Emmissions workshop error. Restarting did not get rid of LIMP so I had to drive about 70 miles home in limp. Not enjoyable at freeway speeds. Got home and scanned with VAGCOM and the following is the only code: First occurrence: 16683 - Boost Pressure Regulation P0299 - 000 - Control Range Not Reached Freeze Frame: RPM: 3150 /min Torque: 268.0 Nm Speed: 122.0 km/h Load: 68.2 % Voltage: 13.91 V Bin. Bits: 00101000 Absolute Pres.: 2295.0 mbar Absolute Pres.: 2590.8 mbar Readiness: 1 1 0 0 0 Another occurrence: 16683 - Boost Pressure Regulation P0299 - 000 - Control Range Not Reached Freeze Frame: RPM: 2835 /min Torque: 196.0 Nm Speed: 57.0 km/h Load: 69.0 % Voltage: 13.83 V Bin. Bits: 00101000 Absolute Pres.: 2305.2 mbar Absolute Pres.: 1764.6 mbar Readiness: N/A If I keep the VAGCOM connected and clear the code on the fly the car drives great. I can keep it out of LIMP if if go real easy on the throttle. I'll be logging things on the way home, but just wanted to check with everyone here to see if there is a common suspect for this code without any other code. (just taking a shot in the dark...lol.) Advise? |

VAG Error Code: 16683
EOBD II Error Code: P0299 Fault Location: Turbocharger (TC)/Supercharger (SC) - Low boost, Control Range not reached Possible Cause: Reduced Power Output. Limp Mode. Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected or leaking. Charger Pressure Control defective. Turbocharger (TC) faulty. Diverter Valve faulty. Mechanical fault. Possible Solutions: Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components. Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control. Check Turbocharger (TC). Check Diverter Valve. Special Notes: When found in 2.0l TFSI:<br>Check Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249), for cracked rubber diaphragm. A new/optimized Valve is available under Part # 06H-145-710-D (or newer). RoW vehicles see: TPI 2016331 for details. NAR (North American Region) vehicles see: TSB 01-07-70 or 2013392 for details. If the Turbocharger is faulty due to mechanical / internal problems or the exhaust system is restricted (typically the Catalyst) this fault may be the end result. Well...I think I found it...lol. See the photos.
I was hearing a loud screeching / whistling sound under load / boost on my way back from lunch. I thought....crap...not the turbo bearings. It's a brand new turbo. But it sounded more like a whistle than a bearing. Looked under the hood to see if anything stood out...and yep...something sure does. Anyone know what this pipe is called or the part # for it? I'll need to order on ASAP or see if the local stealership has one. |

Yep...that doesn't look like it's in the same condition as when it was put in the car.
I was surprised it was broke in two places and the one is completely off. Found one on Ebay for cheap. Much better than the Stealership price of $192 and even the online price of $130 |

Yes. Did some research and it's the upper EGR cooler pipe. Part # 038131521CB
The #'s are the same on most upper EGR cooler pipes I found, with different letters at the end. The CB, in this case, denotes is for the 2004/05 Passat BHW 2.0 TDI. Last edited by ShowUrTTs; 03-14-2012 at 09:48 AM. |
