Default 2003 Jetta TDI - two broken valves

Took my car to the dealership for a Timing Belt and Water Pump service. Got the car back, sounded a little loud but ran OK. 100 miles later, check engine light came on (turbo seemed to be not right) 10 miles later turbo went out, then car quit. Got towed in, came to find out two valves in the #1 cyclinder came in contact with the piston and broke, ruining the engine. This car had 115,000 miles, ran like a top, after the service (100 miles later) my engine is ruined. The dealership is saying "bad luck", I'm saying the mechanic HAD TO HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG!!

I would appreciate any insight to this issue in that the dealership is saying their work looks fine!

99% they did something wrong. 100 miles is WELL under the service and parts warranty so either way they owe you a replacement engine of similar mileage and condition. Not new since your engine wasn't new.

If you want to diy which I would after they hamfisted your engine, most of the time it just needs a new head. The loss of power was probably the timing slipping. Most of the time it just instantly quits.

What have they said they will do? Consider having them give you a payout and take it to a local TDI guy.

Jesus. The dealer did this? Gives me a lot on confidence going in for my "paid" scheduled maintenance. :-/
