Default 2002 tdi timing too far retarded

finished a timing belt job but have to have the injection pump fully retarded w the glow plug temp switch unplugged to start the car, If I try to advance the injection pump even a little bit, I cannot start the car
The vag com states the timing is too far retarded, but if I try to advance it, I cannot start the car
Any help would be beneficial

Are you checking it in basic settings? And you've selected your engine? And the timing line is way below the blue one? Just to clarify.

If it's that retarded it's probably almost to advanced when you retard it as far as possible, maybe you need to take it fairly far forward to get it within specs. If you think of the timing like a circle going from 0 - 255 degrees, so when you're say 5 degrees you're almost back at being extremely advanced. If that makes sense lol. If you're 100% sure everything is pefectly lined up then have you tried the pump really far forward?
