05 passat TDI Catalytic Converter removal.

I have a 05 passat TDI (built in 04) and am wondering if its possible to remove the Catalytic converter and reprogram so the sensors on either side of it behave? I was thinking of tweaking the CPU and giving it more air in and less restriction out.
