Default first deisel.

just bought a 96 passat tdi, love the car so far i have a small fuel leak dripping off the the backside of the motor in the center, also the heat is weak when the air intake is switched to outside , works best with the recirculating cabin air but foggs the windows appreciate any help or ideas thanks for the great website . im a bug man older bugs and almost any old car is cool to me.

Regarding the heating it could be the cabin filter, thermostat or coolant temp sensor all of which are fairly cheap. For the fuel thing you could try looking throughn the faq pages and see if there's anything in there, I can't think what would be at the rear middle of the engine myself offhand.

I could be wrong about this but in my reading it was my understanding that the early TDI Passats had some form of 5th injector located in the exhaust at the back of the engine. I would hazard a guess to say that this is where your leak is. I'm sure there is something in the FAQ's about it and how to remove it as it was there for some emissions purpose and generally causes far more trouble than it's worth. Hopefully someone more experienced can correct me if I am incorrect.
