I have a 97 VW Passat TDI 5-speed. It has 210,000 miles on it. Lately i have discovered that my car may have several problems after reading a bunch of threads on this forum. it could be limp mode or a leaky hose or 3-4 other causes. I have some knowledge of cars but not enough to trouble shoot and fix them. Basicly my car looses some of its power after being driven after reaching operating temperature. Sometimes I can drive for 40-50 miles and others i can drive around the corner and it happens. I can turn the car off and restart it and it will run fine for a while and then again run as though the parking brake is on. So basicly when restaring the engine i guess it resets its self but to no eval continues with the same problem shortly thereafter. I need a mechanic in the vicinity of fayetteville nc to fix my car. I have taken it to a vw dealership and they said it was a computer problem, and it was about 1200.00 dollars to fix but I dont want to give them 1200.00 and not have my problem fixed. I really dont trust dealerships because i have beeen taken to the cleaners on more than one occassion by them. unfortunately I didnt get any default codes from them. Not sure if they even share that info. I am willing to bring my car to a qualified person who knows about the issues surrounding this car and am willing to pay them for their services. i am flexible and can work around your schedule. please call me if you are that person 910-729-2042 |

Sounds like they think it's the map sensor which in your car is built into the ecu, you could try the vacuum pipe replacement and see if that helps, I'd actually replace them all seeing as they're cheap anyway. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a...-tdi-65535.htm If you do need an ecu though you'll get one second hand.

Hi Fred,
It is difficult to identfy faults of an electronically controlled engine when one only knows the symptoms. May I give you a recommendation? Purchase the diagnosis software VCDS (by Ross-Tech). It is relatively cheap. VCDS runs on Windows. You get it together with an interface cable for your car. It enables you to read out all errors from the ECU and all related engine settings. In connection with a repair manual and the advice here in the forum you can perform efficient troubleshooting. I use VCDS since years with my car (Audi built in 1994). Have a look at http://www.ross-tech.com/ Cheers Audi1z |

i was finally able to get a boost leak check done and it was discovered that there was a 2 inch rip in the intercooler pipe. (It was a 5-6 inch 90 degree angle pipe that was ripped and air was escaping) This has been replaced and the check engine light has been cleared off and power has been restored and so far car is runnibg and accerlerating fine.
thans for all your help hopefully this fixes my problem permanantly |
