Spare tire

Does the spare tire have TPMS monitor? I have a TDI SEL PREM PASSAT and I am wondring if a stock alloy wheel and tire will fit in the spare area. I am thinking of tossing the spare and buying a full size spare. Any suggestions?

2012 Passat measure tire pressure via ABS Sensors, not using TPMS, so it does not really matter. You could easily pick up a full size spare and move forward with your plan.

How can ABS sensors sense tire pressure?

It measures the rotations off the wheel sensors and if one is off it knows something is off. Flat tire = smaller diameter.

"The last point is really the major downfall of Indirect TPMS, it requires the driver to recalibrate the system every time the tyres are inflated. So since I drive allot and I purchased my V-Dub I decided to change out the temporary spare to a full size wheel and tire. I went ahead with a Moda MD14 wheel with a Kumho Ecsta ASX tire 235/45R18.

When the tire and wheel arrived I was like this is not going to fit... But it fit like a charm, just need to modify the jack/tool kit holder. See pics... Hope this helps... Not sure why I chose this wheel and tire package but it will do the job.
