Default Rain sensing wipers on VW Passat need activation w/vag-com VCDS to use rain sensor

Well, another mystery of VW parts is solved. The ad brochures for the 2012+ VW Passat say it has intermittent wipers, however, some people say it does not have rain sensing wipers. The rain sensor is clearly visible, it's the thing the rear view mirror is attached to. The sensor is also used for automatic headlights which is enabled from the factory. As it turns out, the rain sensing function of the sensor is probably disabled from the factory. If you don't want it, you're all set. If it's enabled and you want it, leave it alone. If it's not enabled and you want it, below is the procedure.

Use your VCDS tool, go to CECM (central electric) module, enter long coding for the RLS (rain-light sensor), and unclick the checkbox for "Rain sensor inactive". Save and exit. It will now be active.

Here is how to do it: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/b...activation.htm

.......and it's done. I have updated the first post with the details on how to do this. I am still putting together a DIY list for the NA Passat, will update when done.

I did mine yesterday and it definitely works. Thanks for the info. Now if we can get the windows via remote up and down I will be stoked.

I tried to do the comfort remote but couldnt' get it to work. The checkbox is there but it does nothing. Perhaps this might change in the future with different control modules or software updates but for now, it doesn't work. To make all windows go up-down, you can hold the driver's window button with the door open.

I also heard talk of the rain sensor having the ability to auto-close windows/sunroof. Anyone test this yet?

I tried as well but mine doesn't work either. I sent my auto scan to Ross Tech with hopes that they might be able to figure it out soon.

Yes, I just finished the video and the writeup, Rain auto close feature on VW Passat TDI SEL with VCDS mod (vag-com trick) see this post for any questions and support on that article.

Nice meeting you TDICT, if you happen to leave the windows open for more than a day, please let me know if the windows close by themselves. I am interested to know if this is also the case on the Passat. It should but you never know!
