Thumbs up 1st tank fuel consumption

Just filled up the tank after 1,109 km (689 mls). When filled up, MFD indicated 93 mls to empty. That makes a total of 782 mls/tank.
My fuel consumption was 5.0 L/100km (47.04 mpg)
MFD estimate was right on.
Not bad for a brand new car and the 1st tank.

Got 4.2 L/100km or 56 mpg on hwy

Default First tank down

First fillup since picking our SEL TDI up from the dealer. Mix of highway and lots of hills. Hand calculated right at 40mpg. Going to do a long trip this weekend, will see how we do.

This is not mentioned on the fueleconomy.gov site but the window sticker is as above. Any thoughts from anyone. I was all ready to jump on this car as soon as available, but I am now having second thoughts. There is no drop off in the Jetta with the DSG, so why should there be with the Passat?? Maybe I keep my '06 Jetta a while longer after all. I will NOT buy a new Jetta......it is only a shell of the previous car. The thought of that suspension, worse brakes, cheapened interior is too much for me. Love my '11 Touareg TDI though.
I have about 1300 miles on my SEL TDI with Automatic.

I live in South Florida where it is very flat. My around town mileage has been in the upper 30's. On short trips 70 miles mostly highway I've gotten 44.

I drove to Orlando and back, 73 -75 miles per hours mostly in cruise control and got 40.5 mpg.

This is better than my 2006 Jetta TDI.

I'm delighted.

Thumbs up 55 highway MPG is totally realistic!

So I just got through my very first tank and I am happy to report that I logged almost 700 miles on my 2012 TDI SE w/ Manual transmission. (693 to be exact, minus the 7 miles that were already on the car). I got to the gas station and the fuel gauge needle was just a smidgen above absolute empty. I filled it up all the way with 16.7 gallons and doing the match, it is about 41 MPG. This is for about 40% city and 60% highway.

The last half of the tank was purely highway miles as I did two 184 mile round trips from Houston, TX to College Station, TX. That trip was about 55% level highway and about 45% rolling hills.
Trip #1:
  • Leg 1 Avg. Consumption: 56.5 MPG at an average speed of about 60 MPH.
  • Leg 2, on the way back: 50.0 MPG with cruise control at 70 MPH pretty much the entire way + a 200 lbs passenger.
Trip #2:
  • Leg 1, Avg. at an impressive 58.1 MPG with the same 200 lbs passenger at about 60 MPH (I must have had some tail wind).
  • Leg 2, Avg. at 56.8 MPG, with speeds of about 65 MPH. This trip started off with the low-fuel light coming on within 30 seconds of drive. I ended up driving 92 miles with it and no troubles. Since our fuel tank capacity is 18.5 Gallons, it is probably safe to say that you have a 100 miles of highway cruising range once the low-fuel light comes on. Also to add, I have the factory 17" rim that came with the Continentals on it. Very happy that it wasn't the Hankooks.
I love the car and how, quite, comfortable, and spacious it is... oh and, of course, playing the fuel economy game is super fun! *two thumbs up*

When the car had 10 miles on it the first tank of pure diesel got 45 miles per gallon
I have had to blend the next tank and it is only getting 40 miles per gallon.
I am extremely happy with the mileage but I would not burn the blend if I did not have to.
Straight diesel all the way if you want beter MPG
I bought a fuel tank and this weekend and I am going to get it filled then I won't have to blend this Bio crap that is 11% with straight diesel.
