Default Fuels other than Clean Diesel Fuels

I just purchased a 2012 TDI Passat today. Does anyone know if I can run it on fuel other than low sulphur clean diesel fuel? I am thinking about whether there is a conversion kit available for the 2012 Passat TDI, and, if there is, whether it can be used in a manual, and whether I could use heating oil as an alternative fuel. I understand the road tax issues in using heating oil, but I wonder if those issues are still applicable if I legally get a biodiesel conversion, or if I would have to use vegetable oils?

I am not likely to ever do this, but I was just curious what my options are in the event TSHTF.

Manny

Other fuels are likely to destroy the emissions system (poison the catalysts), but if TSHTF you probably won't be too worried about that.

Short answer is no. VW mandates ULSD with no more than 5% bio otherwise the emission system is liable to self destruct in a short time and warranty is bye bye.

If TSHTF, he isn't worried about warranties.

True that, I wouldn't be either. Hopefully if TSHTF, using alternatives will be a very temporary thing to get by until service is restored.

.... and of course, no way to test it in advance -- because voiding your warranty could cause TSHTF in a very local sense (his wallet).

You'd need to tell the computer to ignore things like a shortage of AdBlue.

For any TSHTF scenario, I'd be looking in the classifieds or scrap yards for a project vehicle manufactured back in the day when diesels were a lot less discriminating about what they burned. The new generation clean diesels are wonderful technology, but their rations are more limited than a vegan on an all-tofu diet.

It's not IF TSHTF...it's WHEN TSHTF. Go to http://www.infowars.com/proof-un-pla...american-guns/
You will be surprised how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Biodeisel is a no-no as it dilutes the oil, due to injection for burning up the collected particulates. Oil change cut to 5k miles that is what happens not immision issues.

Manny, if you're dead-set on bioD, may want to follow what this CR owner is up to: B100: Broke 40k today
Just be warned his setup is far from stock. YMMV
