The Passat is getting some flack on the interwebs for getting decontented a little but you can't make everyone happy...I would go for a little more style though.

WTF?
They went back to a urea system to keep the diesel engines clean in the Passat? WTH? So not only do they go backwards in time and resurrect some old Chevy Impala exterior designs they cheap out on the diesel that powers it? I wonder if it is related to that problem I had where my egr filter went kablooie? Maybe the burn off system used in the Golf just doesn't hold up. (would not doubt it, mine does that weird burn off at the oddest times) I guess they can't look better than Audi else who would those bottom of the JDPower quality survey cars. |

Here are my comments so far:
There is a difference of about $2300 between the 2.5 and TDI on all trim levels. The price of the TDI is about the same as the 3.6L at same trim level. The 2.5 has the option of SEL or SEL premium. The 3.6 and TDI only have SEL premium. homelink is included with the SEL trim on the 2.5 but not the 3.5 or TDI engines. I believe this is a typo and it's included on the SEL TDI. I think it's a big mistake not including the MDI ipod adapter on the base car. According to the specs, it's only on SE w/nav or SEL. It's easy to retrofit but it does take wiring and most owners won't do it. It's cheaper/easier to have it from the factory. An engine block heater and auto headlights/wipers and auto dimming interior rear mirror are seen on the car show demo cars but these specs aren't listed on the release. I believe they will be included. |

OK, so starts at about $20,000 is fine but they should say TDI starts at $27,000 (after dealer fees and delivery). A loaded one at a little over $33,000 is starting to get expensive....

The pictured car could be an S. The base TDI is an SE and all the demo TDI came with the auto dimming mirror so I'm guessing all TDI will have the auto dimming mirror. I can tell because the bottom of the mirror has the flip switch. Demo and press cars have the auto dimming mirror equipped. The base is thicker and has an on-off button instead of the flip switch. Oh, and if your Passat badge is crooked, blame Labron. He's shown using an index tool to align the badge. |
