RNS 315 coding issue or antenna issue?

I installed an RNS315 the other day, worked fine during testing. The next day, its location is about 600 miles off in Canada. Then the location was jumping around. Any ideas? Could it be an antenna problem?

Here is the coding of the RNS-315. The compass module was unplugged and position sensing was turned off in the CAN BUS with navigation turned on.

This is on a 2012 Golf 2.5 with CAN BUS# 7n0 907 530 h. Attached is a screenshot of the rns315 coding.

Hey Chitty, I will be purchasing a new antenna for the unit to rule out that out as an issue. I'll keep you posted once the new antenna arrives.

No errors, a battery reset didn't do anything, I am still waiting on the results of this.

I don't know if VAG-COM\VCDS shows any Measuring Blocks for the Navigation on signal strength but you could try a driving test if it does.

just got the new antenna(s) in about to slap them on and see if that fixes the issue. I'll update with my findings.

I can't see the SW level but the NAR vehicles have a TSB 91-10-33 (2024776) Radio, Navigation RNS 315, Updated Programming for System Reset

"Software problem in RNS 315 causes unit to reset if the vehicle position is west of 128° longitude. The problem only occurs in Alaska, Hawaii and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Yukon."

I haven't spoke to anyone that actually had a problem, but I wouldn't be surprised if "system reset" wasn't the only correction that update resolved. Post the scan if this isn't fixed.

Would position sensing being turned on make any difference? From what I hear, some people leave it on and the NAV works fine. Was there a difference in year?

A lot of people report conflicts when the 1C-Position Sensing / Compass module is plugged in with the RNS-510 retrofits but I never unplugged mine. The only functional concern I have is when the car is stopped and on a specific dash/MFA screen, the small icon compass display switches on and off with a mild flickering every few seconds. The normal (large) Navi compass screen that is shown when you do not have a destination entered with active navigation directions is fine.

Hopefully someone with the 315 will leave comments on that issue. It wouldn't hurt to unplug is and remove the 1C module from the installation list in the Gateway.
