Default Adjusting xenon headlights and VCDS

Is it just me or are they aimed way too low? I found the up/down and left/right allen bolts... My question is to what extent can you adjust using the VCDS? and Does a manual adjustment require any VCDS changes? I'm going to order a VCDS, just haven't gotten around to it yet...

I would have thought there would be a manual adjustment, copied from VWvortex.

Two options.

I:
Remove of the little plastic cap on the top of the headlights and use an allen wrench to adjust them.
There are two on each headlight assembly(vertical and horizontal). Vertical is white, horizontal is black. It might be hidden" by having a cap installed into the 6mm hex slot.

II:
Using VCDS(vag-com)
Make sure you're on a level surface.
Click Select Controller
Go to 55 - Xenon Range
Go to Basic Settings - 04
Then in the drop down list, select the adaptation/adjustment option (its the only one in the drop down).
Then click the ON/OFF/NEXT button.

The headlights should automatically raise to level position.
Close controller and you're done. Pretty simple.

Thanks Keith, I was able to find the mk6 post but not the vortex post...

The two allen bolts I found were the ones shown by spockcat, which are BOTH lateral adjustments according to his post, not one vertical and one lateral like bubuski states, and I thought. I didn't look very long, but couldn't find the vertical adjuster in spockcat's post, I'll spend some time on it this weekend.

How does the adaptation/adjustment option work, all headlight movement is controlled by sensors in the suspension, right?

I don't want to blind on coming traffic, so after I figure out the proper and complete way to adjust these, I'll take it in to someone with a aiming machine. Unfortunately, I don't trust our dealer to know the proper way to do anything! We live out in the country, so my wife's chances of hittin a deer is more of a when than an if.

Thanks again, I guess I did find the vortex post but saw it in the Touareg forum and didn't read on.
However this seems to be it!

Default Blasted Headlights

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the irrelavent information concerning my model .
Golf Mk6 2011 , with standard Halogen bulbs and manual height adjust from cabin .
I worked out how to do it after much back pain .

The two Allen key screws in white plastic do adjust height for both high and low beams ,
and the lateral for the low beam .

How do you go about it ?

1 . Set your inside cabin knob fully raised .
2 . Use the allen key to get the required height for the low beam cut off .
This adjustment will also affect the height of the high beams .
They will probably be too high now , pointing upwards .
3 . There is an adjustment knob behind a small 2 cm rubber cover found just
below the high beam cover opening .
Take a 4mm socket and turn this screw .
It is an auxiliary adjustment that can be used to adjust the high beam only ,
after you have adjusted both beams with the previously mentioned Allen key

Result , No more gaps between the high and low beam , unless you're heavily loaded
and have lowered your dipped low beam to avoid blinding oncoming traffic .
The cabin control only works on the low beam and does not adjust the high beam .

Great Forum
