Default Newbie,

Hello everyone, i'm new to this game, so please be gentle be with me.
Just bought a 2003 golf tdi, got a bargain but needs a good service and timing belt, its at 95000 and never been changed, so one of my first jobs to do.
But really looking forward to the forum and the help that it may give me!!

What engine's in your golf? There's a sticker in the boot under the carpet and also in the front of the service manual, it should have a code like ALH/AGR/ASV/ABF etc

Hey up seatman,

No im not a hairy biker, i used to have a Honda 90 if thats any help. Ha Ha
Its a 1.9 tdsi se ATD but i dont no if its a PD or not PD any ideas??

Your's is a PD 100 bhp and is very similar to the BEW in the faq pages, mostly internal differences and maybe the manifold but the timing's the same so just use the BEW faq.

Thanks, to be honest I thought it was that one, although when going through a various sites it says the PD did not start until 2004, I presume this was not the European model.
One thing that is intriguing me ( and I hope you can help ) is that near the top of the engine, in the centre near the bulkhead, is a part with about 4 roughly 10mm hoses coming out of it, one of them is connected to nothing, is this correct is it a breather pipe or has it come of something. I accept it's difficult to diagnose, is it a diverter or something like that ??

Check the diagrams in this link

They should all be connected but maybe someone's removed the egr one or the one to the airbox is off

Well done seatman and thanks, re the pipe that was not connected to anything, it had come of the air filter box.
Timing belt is done, power steering fluid done, fuel filter changed, engine oil and filter changed.
My next job is the handbrake, in short its ****e!!
Any tips??
