Default Intake Manifold Soot Problem

I'm familiar with the TDI intake manifold soot clogging problem on my early 97 AHU TDI. Do the later model TDI's - ALH, BEW, etc also have this problem?

The later ones BEW and newer aren't as bad because the EGR regulation is better with the addition of an o2 sensor and ULSD fuel leaves less residue. Most cars should be better becasue do the cleaner fuel.

Default soot/carbon build up in the intake

So, is it a sign of a bad EGR valve if a manifold has a lot of this in it or just normal?
My 2006 has a lot in it. (also running in limp mode)

I believe you can also have soot from excess blowby.
