The later ones BEW and newer aren't as bad because the EGR regulation is better with the addition of an o2 sensor and ULSD fuel leaves less residue. Most cars should be better becasue do the cleaner fuel.

So, is it a sign of a bad EGR valve if a manifold has a lot of this in it or just normal?
My 2006 has a lot in it. (also running in limp mode) |

I believe you can also have soot from excess blowby.
