Default 2004 TDI Passat joined the family

I just bought a 2004 Passat TDI. I've got an old Benz turbodiesel, and I've grown to love it so much I wanted to get something newer. I stumbled into a decent deal on a 2004 Passat. Overall, it's in great shape, but (as with the Benz) I'm relearning my auto mechanics. First car I rebuilt was at the age of 14, and I've worked on a dirt-track stock car team (a couple of lifetimes ago). Working on things mechanical isn't new or frightening. It's just all the little peculiarities of the Passat that I'm hoping to avoid having to learn the hard way

Looking forward to learning a lot from this forum. So far, it looks like I'll find lots of answers here.

check out the b5 new buying guide for catch up maint, common probs. One recent change is that I now recommend deleting the balance shaft module instead of swapping to geared style.
