Default Wind noise from the front door area

MK6 2011 JSW -
The service bulletin for the wind noise is 57D9. They put a bit of foam tape on the door. It seems to help.

I noticed wind noise doing 30 - 60 kph when I have the window down. It appears to come from my driver side mirror. Is there a fix for that? Or has anyone else experienced this?

Yes .... there is a whistling noise from the front mirrors. It is caused by the small gap of the mirror housing and black trim cover. My dealer is aware of the issue and has admitted a design flaw. VW customer service denies any issue and has informed me that it is not a material defect and thus is not covered under the warranty. VW says they have also spoken to the service manager at the dealer and that he says it is not the mirror. Unfortunately I have good relationship with the service manager who also owns a 2011 Jetta TDI and he has the same problem (we have discussed the mirror design issue at length). That means VW is lying to me.

To answer your question after my rant - many of us have the problem. VW does not have a solution - nor do they admit there is a problem. My solution is electrical tape around the mirror gap.

S.

I just got a letter from VW stating that my car has a recall for wind noise. The recall is 57D9 as per the OP.

I also found on TDI Club that other people are having these recalls:

1- Recall 97V3- Fuse box-horn issue- Harness # 5C0 971 321
2- RVU- 57D9- Wind noise reduction, this did not fix the mirror. Repair kit # 5C6 898 017
3-TSB- Key Adaptation and A/C system software upgrade.
4-RVU-96B7- update programming electronic steering column lock for vehicles with KESSY
5-TSB- Re-seal washer bottle filler neck

My service guy did not mention these to me when I inquired about the 57D9 recall letter.

Well a friend at work with a 2005 Seat Leon 1.9 asked me if I've driven mine with one of the rear windows down I said no I haven't tried that he said there is a terrible boom in the car that hurts you ears. I tried it later on and yes it does boom and it does hurt your ears. It does disappear if you drop the front window an inch or so. I started of slow and watched the speedo to see at what speed this occurs exactly 45mph and upward. I suppose its like blowing over a bear bottle effect.

I drive my 540i with the sunroof open quite often; when the dog rides in the back seat I’ll open the passenger side rear window.

Test driving a 2011 Jetta sedan I tried this same combination as I know this can create turbulence/noise. In the Jetta the noise was unbearable at certain speeds (roll down other windows, which changes the wind dynamics, you get a different sound). In talking with the dealer; he mentioned they made improvements from MK5 to MK6 and were working to further improve.

When ordering my Golf I eliminated this potential problem by ordering the 2-door.
