If so, what else do they share in common. I've heard people saying the engine and the transmission is the same, others said not the same, but very similar. Please let me know. Thank you in advance. |

99.99% same according to the parts catalog. There are some stuff like the length of the exhaust pipe that is custom to the A3 TDI, sportwagen, Golf, etc.
List of differences between the CJAA and CBEA engine in Audi A3, Golf, and Jetta TDI here is a list of differences between the cbea and cjaa engines found in a3, jetta, golf, and sportwagen 2009-present. |

Depends which Passat model year. For instance, I believe (which is to say, not 100% certain) the 2012 Passat uses the same motor and tranny, since the platform is still mk6, however the motor is not 100% identical. There's talk of the engine having a different model code, but not sure if it's a year-over-year difference across all TDIs or just the new Passat TDI. The following differences rumored (or otherwise) will likely result in a separate engine code for the new Passat: lift pump, HPFP and emissions technology (AdBlue). These will require different ECU programs for both motor and DSG.
And hopefully they resolved the iced intercooler issue for the Passat. |

If you're talking about the MKVI, Yes.
