Default Snow chains

Problem 1: Oregon requires snow chains when posted on two wheel drive vehicles. Problem 2: Snow chains will not fit on mk6 tdi w/ 17" wheels. Question: has anybody found snow chains or cable chains that will work for 10 or 15 miles (only need them to get over the pass) on a mk6 Golf?
Thanks, Motorscooter

I suspect that I have the same tires as you have (225/75/17) and found many that will fix the 17" rims on my sportwagen at this site.

I found them to be very helpful although a little higher on price (but they have them).

I have Spiders (plastic pieces that fit over the outside face of the wheel) and while I haven't used them yet, my Dad used them last spring after buying the car and reported they work pretty well. I have noticed a slight interference with the front edge of the fender tho. If you get a good set of studded snow tires, you probably won't actually need the chains except when it really gets ugly. In such situations, the Spiders probably won't do a whole lot for traction, but they will satisfy the letter of the law and the studs will get you hopefully down the road.
