Default Radio with SD slot

I am new to this forum. I have a 2011 jetta sprotwagon TDI with the standard radio which I bought new last Dec. It has a CD slot and a SD slot. My question. How do I get the radio to play the SD card? I have loaded several songs on it and checked it to work on my computer. When I plug it into the radio, it tells me there is nothing on it. I have loaded it direct from other CD's and have also tried loading it from my Itunes on my computer.
I know there has to be away as this little chip holds a lot of CD's without the bulk. I have searched this forum and have found nothing on the subject unless I am not doing it right.

It should be pretty straight forward...Load files in .mp3 format (.wma and some other formats don't work, but the radio should tell you that...you aren't getting anything, so there's probably another issue) and pop the card in. Make sure your card is compatible with the unit (please tell us what radio head [ie...RCD-510] you have, or do a search). Try reformatting your card as well to the FAT-32 file system (this is done on your computer)

The early RNS-510 only read SD and not SDHC but I'm sure yours can read SDHC.

In the media menu, go to SD card. It should play them.

If he has the standard radio it must be the rcd-510.

GOLFTDI! You've got to change your vehicle description. I always thought it was a website error that caused the screen to resize. I think it's your vehicle description. Can you pare it down or put some of it in a sig line? It makes reading these threads on a mobile phone a b*tch.

Ahhh...it feels and looks much better...thanks guys, I guess I was lazy to figure this out previous...anyway, back to the topic!!

I missed that he said "standard" radio so it should be the RCD-510 like I have, I use an 8GB SDHC card. Works well, I believe it will accept up to 32GB SDHC.

I have found my radio's SD Card slot to be very picky. It tried 4 different brand and sizes before I finally found one that worked 100% of the time:
