At least the manual is 99.9% coherent. You should try reading a Kawasaki owner's manual sometime.

Very true.

BTW, drove the car to work for the first time today. I would have done so yesterday, but needed the truck for some other errands. I've been following the prescribed break-in procedure which is quite easy to do with a diesel. However, decided to have a bit of fun on I84 and had the car up to 100-105ish. Very smooth and was impressed to see the car loafing under 3k RPM at that speed.

She's definitely nothing like the 2005 E46 M3 or 2006 Evo IX MR I owned in the past in terms of acceleration or handling (bit nose heavy and tends to plow in corners), but she drives great on the interstate; reminds me of when I was stationed in Germany and bought a used Audi A4. Despite me not being so used to a FWD car, I've gotten the knack of rotating the rear and getting the front to go where I want to go with a little trail braking/throttle modulation on apexes. Most of my friends would probably laugh at me if I showed up at Lime Rock with the TDI, but I wouldn't mind... especially when I show them the average MPG the Golf achieves.

I also like the clutch and brake feel; easy to heel-toe/rev-match in the Golf. I am very happy to have purchased the 6MT instead of the DSG. I suppose if the DSG could actually hold a gear, then I probably wouldn't mind so much; but the DSG I test drove was nothing like an M3 DSG that I've used in the past.

Well, I've got 400 miles on the clock now. Another 999,600 to go.

P.S. Got my first windshield stone chip too today. Aargh...

Great looking car!

I can't fathom why we pay more for our cars in Canada and yet we don't get features like HID-LED headlights or Dynaudio sound like you guys get in the US. I've got a top-of-the-line Highline with Nav, and I did not even have the OPTION to get these two features!

Thanks!

I know what you mean... I would have been 110% happy to have had a factory option for the RNS510+9w7 instead of the RNS315 plus xenons and whatever else came with the tech package.
