Default ordering a new 2012 Golf tdi w/tech?

I just got finished talking with a dealer and she said that if want the 2012 Golf w/tech package in Shark Blue preferably that I should just order it to make sure I get what I want and it should be there by the time I get home which would be the middle of March. From what I'd seen and read on this forum people have been waiting like 5 months to get their order. I just want to confirm with others that I'm just trying to get locked in with a $500 deposit and getting lied to basically.

5 months doesn't sound unreasonable. I don't think she's lying to you. My wife has the Shark Blue and she loves it. Me to. But I like my Blue Graphite I think it's called even better. Stay safe.

Verify that you'll be able to get the color. The car would need to be build fairly soon, as they're discontinuing Shark Blue after the first week of Feb. I just got my car after ordering it at the beginning of Nov.

The dealer did tell me 6-8 weeks, which really meant 19weeks. But he also noted that ordering from VW does NOT mean they are building YOUR specific car at a specific point. They build cars, the dealers put in ‘bids’ if you will, and when the manufacturing schedule spits one of those models out, it eventually allocates it to the dealer as they are in line. (I may be misunderstanding some element here and I’m sure someone will correct me, but that’s the gist of it if I understand it correctly).

‘Lying’ implies intent to deceive, and I do not believe they are purposefully trying to deceive anyone. I think VW is selling more cars than they can build in short periods of time.

Thanks for the replies and feedback. I would expect to have to wait about 4 to 5 months to get the vehicle I want if I order it. Since I have already sold the car I had while I've been away I'll just have to settle for what's on the lot unless I'm able to barrow a car for a few months and I don't think that is going to happen. As long as I find a Golf w/tech package I'm pretty happy. I just really don't want a red or black car. I can deal just fine with the other colors. I hope everyone else is happy with their Golf's so far. I know I'm looking forward to getting mine. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might want to ask tem to change or activate in the VAG COM before I drive it off the lot?

I ordered my 2012 Golf Tech Package on 5 July 2011.

I picked it up from dealer the last week in november.

Here is how the ordering system works: http://askavwsalesguy.com/find-me-a-vw/post/1714588

If you do not keep on top of your order, it will remain in IS Status for a LONG TIME.

Ordered one for my wife on Sept 19th. Finally, just this week, I received word that it will be at the dealer on March 16th or so. Dealer has been very unresponsive and "don't know why it hasn't been built yet" when inquiring for the past 4 months. Had to order it since a 6mt, four-door with tech package was pretty much no where to be found in the southeast. Not in the three color choices that we would accept, anyways.

Where did you read that Shark Blue is getting shelved?

FWIW, I found my 4 door Shark Blue with tech and 6MT right on the dealer's lot. I must have gotten lucky.

I picked up my car about a week ago. The deal was put together on a Saturday, car was at the Dealers lot Monday, picked it up last Tuesday. I bought the United Gray 4-dr, 6spd, with the Nav / sunroof package. There are / were at least 6 on the lot with the Tech package. Couldn't justify the extra cake for what it came with, so I opted to go without. Did I say I loved it?
