Default Oil Extractor ? on 2010 Golf

Read somewhere that there may be an issue with top oil extractors on newer models due to "ribs" in oil pan or something like that and not being able to suck all of the oil out. So I took a piece of .25" OD tubing and put it down the dip stick tube as far as it would go. The length of the tubing was about 2 to 3 inches longer than the oil dipstick. Does anyone know if this is deep enough to ensure getting "all" of the oil out? Just asking before I go and buy an extractor.

Thanks
Mike

There is no issue with oil extraction and 2010 TDIs. Relax. Buy the extractor. Sleep well. See the DIY in this forum. Extraction removes all but 8-10 mL of oil. Bentley manual recommends extraction for 2010 Golf TDIs. You only need to put the tubing down to the bottom of the pan. You don't need to bed it so that the tubing lies flat on the bottom for those last few inches.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'm thinking of either the Pela 650 or the Mityvac MV7400 ( my understanding is that Mityvac made improvements to the old P/N 07400 and it is now much more durable) does anyone have a big preference for one or the other?

The Pela 6000 from Dieselgeek.com is fine for the TDI. I have the bigger Pela 650 model, since my X3 holds nearly 7 quarts of oil.

You can check Amazon, too. I got mine from griotsgarage.com and it can be used to do brake fluid flushes, too. I just like Pela. Like Griot's lifetime warranty, too. Griot's has free shipping currently.

here is the one I used:

It worked great for me, I have done 2 oil changes with it, one on my Odyssey and another on my Jetta TDI.

I assume it's no problem using an extractor on 2012 TDIs also?

Yup, all Mark 6 Golf TDI have the same engine (in the US).
