Default mud flaps?

I bought a 2011 Golf TDI, really happy with it,but this first winter the rear of the car really gets coated with road grime. I wanted to know if anyone with a 2011 Golf has had the mud flaps installed, and have they helped with keeping the rear of the car cleaner.

Welcome to the forum.

I've always had mudflaps on mine. It does get very dirty at the back but I assume it would be dirtier without them. Apart from keeping the dirt off they are good for preventing the sills getting pebble dashed with grit.

Thanks for the reply.
I just did a forum search, and didn't realize what a popular topic this was. It seems the flaps may not be the ultimate solution, but may install them when the weather warms.

Yes we have talked about them before as you've found out after a search. They are straight forward to fit even though mine were fitted from new I've had the off to waxoyl the wings.

Mud flaps will keep the underside of the rear bumper cover from getting torn up. They do nothing to keep dirt off of the rear glass or hatch on a Golf TDI. The front flaps prevent stone chips, to some degree along the sills. I don't have them on my .:R32 and the rear bumper has rock chips. No one sees them except me. Just Rain-X the rear glass on a Golf and it stays cleaner for a few hours longer.

Yep, I installed the mudflaps myself. It's pretty simple with a couple Torx bits, an awl (or other creative plastic-poking tool, like the 1/2" wood-boring bit I used), one combination wrench, and a rubber mallet. In an hour or two, you can be done with it. They do keep most stuff from getting splashed up the side of the fender and door, and probably keeps some stuff off the rear bumper.

we put them on our Sportwagen and you can tell the difference between it and my 06 Jetta. My Jetta gets a lot more mud on it!

I just picked up a set of genuine VW mudflaps for both front and rear. Looks like pretty good quality. I'm going to wait until the weekend since you haveto pull the wheels according to the instructions.

Had VW OEM mud flaps put on my car front and rear before it left the dealership. Quality construction and look great on the car. Dealership did not have to remove wheels to attach - they did an excellent job.
