Default Maintenance

Do TDIs require more maintenance than gasoline vehicles? I read here that at each oil change they also require a fuel filter change. What else?
I'm thinking, whether savings on fuel become loses on maintenance...

These cars don't tolerate neglect, but... oil/filter changes every 10,000 miles, fuel filter changes every 20,000 miles... not really excessive... compare with how many oil changes your typical gasoline-powered car requires...

"I read here that at each oil change they also require a fuel filter change."
That statement is incorrect. The service interval for the fuel filter is every 20K miles. Engine oil and filter changes are (or should be) done every 5K miles.

The balance on whether a TDI is a better investment long term than a similar sized gas engine is one of the great questions of the automotive world. The answer is different depending on whom you ask the question of.

According to what source? Factory design is 10,000 miles... I don't know about the newer cars, but on the older designs, there have been many owners who have extended these intervals to beyond 15,000 miles... (We've used mostly long intervals on our 2003, and the engine's purring along just fine at 435,000 miles...)

Yes we have talked about the oil change interval in one of wimpog's other threads TDI Engine Oil.

The fuel filter change period for petrol and diesel is about the same my last car was 24k.

The US factory maintenance manual included in to owners manual with the car.
I would be happy to scan mine and email it to you.

Why don't you scan and post it here? When I checked VW's website, it indicates oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals...

Please, scan and post it here.
I am also interested to know what else is required for maintenance besides oil/filter, and at what intervals.

Don't take this as a personal attack, but you really need to do some reading, instead of starting a new post for every question. I realize the amount of reading is daunting, but guarantee you'll find answers to unimagined questions to boot.

To answer your initial question, A diesel motor requires LESS scheduled maintenance than a gasser (and some less often). As eloquently stated, by Yuri, "These cars don't tolerate neglect".
