-10 C or -10 F? In either case plug in will make life a lot easier. Not familiar with those fuels, I'll move this post to mk6 section since there may be some more views htere.

Thanks chitty, one other quick question should the fuel filter be changed every 20,000?

When I bought my TDI, the sales mgr told me not to bother with the more expensive V-Power diesel. He said put the normal diesel in and you will be fine.

Alot of people say the V-Power diesel is better for the engine as it removes sludge build up etc. It just contains additives that are added at the pump and the base fuel delivered to shell is the same as anywhere else, see this thread for more in depth discussion.
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=200694 I've used Petro-Canada diesel for my last 10 fill ups and have averaged around 5.8L / 100km, and I used the V-power diesel at a 6c/litre premium and it returned the same consumption. Important thing is to make sure its winterized, and in Canada it pretty much has to be. Last edited by Highgate Golfer; 02-03-2012 at 10:09 PM. Reason: Fixed link |

Myself, I'd forgo the extra cost of using the V-Power. Better to look for a high volume station if one is available to you. As for plugging her in on cold winter nights. Can't hurt and could probably help. I haven't had to with my 2011 Golf and it starts no problems so far. Haven't seen any -40 temps so far either. I'd plug in if that were to occure. Do you use any additive in your tank. I use the OptiLube XPD. I get it from a guy who is in your neck of the woods. More for the lubricity factor for the ULSD.

While plugging in your vehicle is always a good thing, I have never done it. I've had my car sit outside all day long in colder than -30C temperatures and it started just fine without being plugged in. With regards to the v-power.... not worth the extra money IMO. I fill up all over the place - Canadian Tire for the next year, but prior Superstore, Flying J Shell, 7-Eleven, Esso.... and only really notice variations with the temperature. Colder it gets the more my f/e sucks. Here is my fuelly: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/hellfire/jetta |
