Everything is the same as the GTI. Bumper, steering wheel, fog lights, etc. The only different part is the grill. For mine, I lucked out and had someone from Wolfsberg actually buy one and ship it to me. Maybe look on ebay.de?

Well if you have a JSW why do you need front end parts and steering wheel for a GTD are you doing a conversion for someone?

If you don't want to pay stealership prices (front bumper £285, steering wheel £465, control unit £105 plus other bits and pieces) then your best bet is eBay.

Why worry about it? Besides, the GTD parts look good and the JSW. Also, if you have the flappy paddle gearbox, the steering wheel will add the flappy paddles.

Oh, a heads up, The flat on the fenders of the Golf is bigger than it is on the JSW, so the bumper's lines won't match up. A good body shop can correct that, but it's labor intensive (read expensive). On mine the lines don't match up because the fenders are pulled to accommodate really wide rubber.

It does say GTD, but I think my car can get away with the badge, since I've got more power, and better handling that a factory GTD. Besides which, VW is never going to make the GTD's CR170 engine available in the US since it's a whole lot of expensive testing to get it emissions certified, for what? A few limited production vehicles? Pffft.

Yes that surprises me that the GTD isn't sold in the US because it doesn't meet the emission regs you have, they would sell a hell of alot more if they did. I can't see that the normal 2.0 TDI kicks out less crap than the CR170?

So if you've had your chipped what is your engine kicking out now, not claimed dynoed?

It's not so much that it won't pass emissions, but rather getting it actually certified.

Currently I'm at 184/334 but my car also has reduced heat soak, better fuel economy, and that's just the engine. The car sits on coil over shocks, with 32mm front/27mm rear solid swaybars, and the fenders are flared to accommodate 255/40R18 tires.

Surely thats the same to be certified it must pass certain tests which obviously it won't?

Maybe I'm misspeaking (mistyping?) myself. If it would actually pass, and there's no reason to think it wouldn't is immaterial. It's a very expensive process of getting EPA certification for an engine. Any change, say, a different injector nozzle, is considered a completely different engine and must be certified from the begging. VW simply doesn't justify certifying another TDI engine for the US market where even the one Diesel engine has a limited market share.

In Europe, Diesels are very popular so having 3 or 4 different engines, or variations, makes sense as it allows them to be competitive with other manufacturers. In the US, there simply are no other small cars with Diesel engines on the market so the only thing the CR170 could compete with is the CR140.
