I followed these instructions this past weekend, and everything went exactly as stated. I will plan to post the oil analysis when I get it back from Blackstone (2,963 miles). I have a 2010 MB ML 350 which I changed the oil at 5K, instead of the book recommended 10K, and the oil analysis came back with very high metal ratings (they questioned the 10K recommendation based on the metal readings). The one thing I did differently was my manual indicated 4.0 liters for my Golf TDI, so I put that amount in and checked it and it was right on the full mark. I know the DIY instructions said 4.3 liters per the supplement. Robert

Default Oil Evacuation Tubes (Storage Sleeve)

I liked the oil extractor concept so much that I bought a MityVac unit. However, I was surprised that there was no storage system for the evacuation tubes. With the tube being inserted into the crankcase, I felt that a clean storage system for the oil evacuation tubes was warranted, so I came up with the following, see attached file.

The storage sleeve also keeps the tube straight, so that the end going into the crankcase doesn't curl up and away from the lowest point in the pan.

Sorry for the image quality, I had to compress it to get under the file size limit.

Awesome idea, I just keep everything in the box and wipe down before use. I will add your .pdf to the oil extractor writeups.

Nice idea. I, too, like Chitty, keep the oil tubes in the box after letting the oil drain out into a catch pan. Your idea is elegant.

I did my 25K oil extraction today and finally used my Assenmacher funnel for Father's Day. Very nice funnel. No hands needed, every drop drains into the crankcase, too.

Default Funnel Connection

Does the Assenmacher funnel dock/mate into the valve cover like the oil cap does?

If so, I am sold and would like some ordering and contact information.

TDI Hoo, I have posted a link to your original review of the oil funnel to each oil change writeup w/pics. Thanks! It seems there are some people interested in it.

Indeed, it twists on with a rubber gasket, just like the oil cap. Totally leak proof. No hands needed. A one liter/quart bottle fits in it. No mess. Form my TDI, .:R32, and BMW X3, this is the ticket. Should last 150 years.

I did my 40K oil change a few weeks ago and finally got around to making my own extractor tubing sleeve. I brought your PDF to Lowe's, but I could not replicate your exact design. Point is that there are so many PVC connectors you can come up with something. I bought a 5 foot long 1 inch diameter tube for the storage sleeve and a variety of adapters for the top and bottom as shown in the pictures. Total cost was $8.44 at Lowe's. The box I have used to store the dirty tubes for the last 6 years is just a mess. This is an elegant solution. Bravo, TDILow3!

I recommend you bring your tubing with you, since you never know what PVC connectors/adaptors will be suitable for your manufacturer of extractor tubing.

I left it at 5 feet. I have no need to cut it to 4 feet.

This is the bottom end for drainage and collection of the oil:

This end is the top and holds the connector end of the 3 tubes:

This is how the inside of the top looks:

Here is the top cover:

Here is the whole shebang hanging on the wall, out of the way.
